Coloring Book Review: Secrets of the Sea by Millie Marotta

I first started coloring in June of 2015. Millie Marotta's books were among the first coloring books I was interested in. I have colored a few of her pictures and I like how unique her art style is.  I don't have all of her books, yet, but I definitely wanted to get this one as soon as it came out. This book still has that same signature style that Millie is known and loved for.

Maybe it's because I have not colored in one of her books for a long time, but I love this book much more than I was expecting. She has included so many different types of sea life, both from under the water and above the water.  The variety of pictures is a pleasant surprise. The picture here is my favorite and it will be the first one I color in this book. I probably won't color in this one for a while since fall and winter are around the corner and I tend to like seasonal coloring, but this will be a great book. I have already seen some beautiful work from the book by very talented colorists.

I really like the paper quality of this book as well. It is thick, white paper and fairly smooth. I am just now learning how differently pencils behave on different types of paper, so I don't yet know what type of pencils are best suited for this paper. I imagine Arteza pencils or Prismacolors would do nicely, but we'll see. I may try some watercolors in here. I can see using some metallic or glittery blues and greens on these pages. I've never used any water media in one of Millie's books, so I don't know how the paper holds up with water.

This is a new release this week, so I'm sure it will be easy to find anywhere. Anyway, if you have not had a look at Millie Marotta's books yet, I highly recommend her, she has something for everyone. And if you like anything sea related, this is your book.

*Disclaimer: this book was purchased by me. I was not paid to write this review
